Investing.com – Netherlands equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Healthcare and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Amsterdam, the AEX declined 0.72%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the AEX were Randstad (AS:RAND), which rose 0.66% or 0.36 points to trade at 54.50 at the close. Akzo Nobel (AS:AKZO) added 0.59% or 0.35 points to end at 59.66 and KPN Kon (AS:KPN) was up 0.18% or 0.005 points to 2.813 in late trade.
Biggest losers included ArcelorMittal SA (AS:ISPA), which lost 3.40% or 0.262 points to trade at 7.453 in late trade. Galapagos NV (AS:GLPG) declined 2.79% or 1.840 points to end at 64.010 and DSM Kon (AS:DSMN) shed 2.21% or 1.29 points to 57.20.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 88 to 39 and 9 ended unchanged on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange.
The AEX Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of AEX options, was down 1.86% to 14.01.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for February delivery was up 1.51% or 0.79 to $53.04 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in March rose 1.85% or 1.02 to hit $56.12 a barrel, while the February Gold contract rose 0.37% or 4.45 to trade at $1201.05 a troy ounce.
EUR/USD was up 0.72% to 1.0659, while EUR/GBP rose 0.74% to 0.8732.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.66% at 101.03.
