Miramar Resources Ltd (ASX:M2R) is forging ahead with exploration at its Mount Vernon Project, in the expansive Bangemall Project in the Gascoyne region of WA, with a fixed loop electromagnetic (FLEM) survey.
Not previously seen in WA
The company is conducting the survey to refine targets for future drilling tests in the area, which it hopes has the potential for a style of nickel, copper and platinum group element (PGE) mineralisation “not previously seen in WA”, and most like the giant Norilsk deposits in Siberia.
The project's geological framework includes the Kulkatharra Dolerite sills, part of the Warakurna Large Igneous Province.
These sills are contemporaneous with the large Nebo and Babel nickel-copper deposits in the West Musgraves, indicating the potential for significant mineralisation.
Previous exploratory activities by Miramar included a Versatile Time Domain Electromagnetic (VTEM) survey, which identified multiple late-time EM anomalies.
These anomalies were noted particularly where a dolerite sill intersects sulphidic sediments.
Follow-up reconnaissance rock chip sampling revealed the presence of coarse-grained sulphides in the dolerite and adjacent gabbro at various locations.
The current FLEM survey targets several high-priority VTEM anomalies to further refine prospects for subsequent drilling.
A key focus is the Vernon Gap target, characterised by a robust late-time VTEM anomaly and historical findings of significant nickel and copper.
What’s next?
Looking ahead to 2024, Miramar has outlined an ambitious plan of action. The company aims to validate its nickel-copper-PGE deposit model at Bangemall through the discovery of nickel-copper-PGE sulphide mineralisation.
This will involve completing FLEM surveys, reverse circulation (RC) drill testing, ground checking historic SkyTEM anomalies at the newly granted Trouble Bore Licence, progressing other tenement applications and identifying additional prospective areas for exploration.
Executive chair Allan Kelly said: “We believe the Bangemall has the potential to be an entirely new nickel province in which we have built a commanding land position and we look forward to continuing to uncover the potential of this very large project.”
