Maximus Resources Ltd (ASX:MXR, OTC:MXRRF) has wasted no time putting drills to ground at the Lefroy Lithium Project in Western Australia, after its joint venture with the Korea Mine Rehabilitation and Mineral Resources Corporation (KOMIR) was approved by the Australian Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB).

The company is pursuing a second phase of reverse circulation (RC) drilling on the project, testing the continuity of lithium mineralisation across the Kandui prospect, where previous drilling produced results of 6 metres at 1.11% lithium oxide including 3 metres at 1.99% from 91 metres, and 5 metres at 1.11% including 3 metres at 1.72% from 111 metres.

MXR says the Lefroy Project is located on granted mining tenements with excellent access to infrastructure, which should provide expedited opportunities for development of potential resources.

Testing for lithium below 200 metres

“With the joint venture receiving approval from the FIRB, we are excited to immediately commence a follow-up RC drill program across the very promising Kandui Prospect lithium target with our KOMIR partners,” Maximus Resources managing director Tim Wither said.

“The Lefroy Lithium Project has had limited drilling across an extensive swarm of more than 80 highly fractionated outcropping pegmatites, which strongly correlates to a highly elevated lithium-in-soil anomaly.

“Soil mapping has identified the presence of a large 3-kilometre by 1.5-kilometre lithium-in-soil anomaly, extending from the recent discovery of spodumene-bearing pegmatites, providing encouraging signs that the lithium-in-soil anomalies may be associated with a large mineralised system, which we are just starting to drill test and understand.

“The second phase drill program is focused on expanding our recent intersection of high-grade spodumene dominant mineralisation within a sequence of stacked shallow-dipping pegmatites, with several deeper step-out holes to test below 200 metres in depth.”

Maximus is awaiting results from phase 2 and 3 of its soil sampling program, which will offer additional drilling targets in the southern region of the tenure.
