Lightning Minerals Ltd (ASX:L1M) has appointed Gyro Drilling Australia for an upcoming drill program targeting lithium at its Dundas South project.
Up to 7,500 metres of aircore drilling is set to commence next month, targeting high-priority lithium in soil anomalism up to 218ppm lithium on tenement E63/2000.
The program will be testing for pegmatites and lithium mineralisation at identified soil anomalies around 8-kilometres east of Liontown Resources’ Buldania project.
A recent infill soil sampling program further delineated clustered samples greater than 100ppm lithium and up to 177ppm lithium over a 2.6-kilometre by 1.0-kilometre area, representing a significant area of anomalism that warrants drill testing.
The upcoming drilling will focus on identified lithium, rubidium and caesium soil anomalies of up to 218ppm lithium within this area and trending northwest to southeast.
The company says that any pegmatite intersections discovered during aircore drilling will be analysed and should lithium-bearing minerals be identified follow up it will undertake reverse circulation (RC) drilling to test deeper, fresh lithologies. Geological modelling and delineation of any mineralisation intervals will be undertaken at that stage.
Additionally, further infill surface geochemistry programs are now being devised for tenement E63/2028 and the Dundas North Project areas. The company is now working through permitting and access obligations to ensure all permitting obligations are met.
Promising drill campaign to start 2024
Lightning Minerals managing director Alex Biggs said: “Tenement E63/2000 has always been an area of interest for us at Lightning Minerals. The initial geochemical results received in March began to identify a clear northwest to southeast trend, which is of interest given the regional geological context.
“We felt that further follow up was required and the infill geochemical work has helped more clearly identify that area of interest with assays up to 177ppm lithium. With original assays up to 218ppm lithium, the clustering and clear drill targets that have been identified we’re excited to start 2024 with a promising drill campaign.
“Add to that the proximity of defined resources only 8-kilometres to the west in a region that is becoming red hot in the lithium space we are in a fertile area for exploration. We welcome Gyro Drilling Australia back to the team as we look forward to working with them again.”
