Lightning Minerals Ltd (ASX:L1M) has kicked off an inaugural exploration program at its Dalmas and Hiver lithium projects in the James Bay region of Quebec, Canada.
The company intends to identify potential lithium-caesium-tantalum (LCT) hard rock lithium pegmatites to develop into drill targets, beginning with ground reconnaissance work including mapping and rock chip sampling.
The groundwork will focus on areas of interest identified with data from multispectral analysis, forming seven clustered areas.
James Bay acquisitions a “coup”
“To begin work in Canada is a big step forward for the company,” Lightning Minerals managing director Alex Biggs said.
“The prospectivity of the region is well known so to make an acquisition in James Bay is a significant coup for us.
“We welcome our contractors and new colleagues in Canada and wish them a safe and productive exploration campaign. We look forward to updating the market on our progress.”
Overall, L1M intends to investigate 165 discrete signatures over seven exploration target areas identified across the projects.
The prospective areas register up to 2.7 kilometres in length on the Dalmas Project and 2.1 kilometres at the Hiver Project, offering sizable exploration targets.
The James Bay area is an emerging lithium province in Canada, host to sizable lithium resources including Patriot Battery Metals’ Corvette Lithium Project, with a mineral resource of 109.2 million tonnes at 1.42% lithium inferred, one of the largest hard rock lithium deposits in the Americas.
