Kingfisher (LON:KGF) Mining Ltd (ASX:KFM) has had a boost to its exploration efforts at the Mick Well Rare Earth Elements (REE) Project, in the prolific Gascoyne Province, following a successful bid for government co-funding.
The company has been awarded $200,000 under the Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DEMIRS) Exploration Incentive Scheme (EIS), aimed at furthering the exploration of key mineral resources in Australia.
Meticulously identified targets
The funding will facilitate the drilling of carbonatite pipe targets within the Mick Well area, which have shown potential for significant REE mineralisation.
These targets have been meticulously identified through advanced three-dimensional modelling techniques, using gravity and magnetics data to pinpoint areas with dense and magnetic rock properties indicative of carbonatite presence.
The drilling campaign is set to commence in June and will focus on three large carbonatite pipe targets.
Each target spans more than 1,000 metres in diameter and is close to the surface, with the uppermost sections fewer than 50 metres below ground.
These carbonatite pipes lie at the heart of a vast expanse of outcropping carbonatites and associated fenite alteration, central to the high-grade vein and dyke REE mineralisation previously discovered by Kingfisher.
Heritage survey wrapped up
In preparation for this pivotal drilling initiative, Kingfisher has completed essential heritage survey work, ensuring that all cultural and historical aspects of the site are preserved.
The final heritage report is expected shortly, with all other necessary approvals and permits already secured, positioning the company to move forward promptly upon receiving the report.
The co-funded drilling is strategically planned to target the central and western pipes, with potential expansion to additional areas based on initial results.
Kingfisher executive director and CEO James Farrell said: “Our successful application for government co-funded drilling for the carbonatite pipe targets is a very positive sign of support for the high-quality targets and technical work the company has completed advancing its rare earths elements discoveries at Mick Well.
“We have recently completed heritage surveys for the planned drilling as well as other potential drill sites across the Mick Well area. With all drilling approvals in place, we look forward to drilling the carbonatite pipes which can commence from June.
"We are grateful for the support from DEMIRS under the co-funded exploration incentive scheme.”
