South African-focused energy company Kinetiko Energy Ltd (ASX:KKO, OTC:KKOEF) has moved to enhance its leadership structure and commercialisation focus with the appointment of oil and gas industry veteran Robert Scharnell as a non-executive director, effective November 24, 2023.

Scharnell boasts more than 30 years of experience in the energy industry, working at Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX) in establishing and implementing business strategy.

Internationally experienced

Scharnell has operated in more than 20 countries under complex situations, playing a role in the completion of the Wheatstone Project – at the time, Chevron’s largest project investment in the company’s history.

His breadth of experience extends beyond the core energy business, with a career highlight in managing the creation and implementation of an award-winning economic development and social impact project in Africa.

This project transformed Chevron’s approach to improving lives within the communities it operated.

As a side note, non-executive directors Tom Fontaine and Geoff Michael stepped down from the board following the company’s annual general meeting on November 24, with Kinetiko’s board thanking the pair for their contributions.

The two were significant contributors, with Michael being a long-serving member of the board, having supported the 2011 IPO as a founding director.
