GENERAL

Italy's government cannot exclude ordering lockdowns for certain areas of the country where there is a surge in coronavirus infections, Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said on Monday, adding the number of new daily cases was "worrying". government agreed on a request from the Lombardy region, hard hit by COVID-19, to impose further restrictions to curb a new surge in infections, an health ministry spokesman told Reuters on Monday.

The Lombardy region said in a statement it would propose the government stop from Oct. 22 non-essential economic activities and people's movements between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m, adding they would also be asked to shut down all large shops on Saturday and Sunday. ATL.MI

Italy's CDP and investment funds Macquarie and Blackstone (NYSE:BX) have presented a proposal to buy Atlantia 's 88% stake in motorway unit Autostrade per l'Italia (Aspi), the Italian state lender said late on Monday.

Two sources close to the matter told Reuters that the proposal put forward by the CDP-led consortium did not include any valuation for Aspi, a detail that could jeopardise negotiations between the state lender and Atlantia. hedge fund TCI Fund Management has increased its stake in the Italian infrastructure group to above 10%, one of its officials told Reuters, as an extraordinary shareholder meeting on Atlantia's motorway assets approaches. CDP's offer is worth approximately 9 billion euros, net of 1 billion for legal risks linked to the collapse of the Genoa bridge in 2018, Corriere Della Sera said. The offer values the 88% stake of Atlantia's motorway unit at around 8.5-9.5 billion, Il Messaggero said.

(*) Autostrade's new governance would allow CDP to hold de facto control of the company, even if the state lender is going to have a stake of less than 50%, Il Corriere added.

(*) CDP will be able to appoint Autostrade's chairman and CEO, Il Sole 24 Ore said.

Italy will include in its 2021 budget a legislation to extend to June next year a moratorium on loans to small and medium-sized companies, Economy Minister Roberto Gualtieri said on Monday. The moratorium was expected to expire in January. BANCO BPM BAMI.MI

A possible merger with Credit Agricole (PA:CAGR) should pass through the scrutiny of the Italian government thanks to its special powers conferred by the so-called golden power, but it is still too early to speculate about Rome's position, Il Sole 24 Ore said. The newspaper indicated Lazard as advisor to Banco BPM, while Rotschild, Morgan Stanley (NYSE:MS) and JP Morgan are competing for the role with Credit Agricole.
