POLITICS

Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte on Tuesday imposed new restrictions on gatherings, restaurants, sports and school activities in an attempt to slow a surge in novel coronavirus infections in Italy. ATL.MI

The Italian infrastructure group said on Tuesday it had entered exclusive talks until Oct. 18 with state lender Cassa Despositi e Prestiti (CDP) over the sale of the company's motorway assets. Italy's state lender CDP has teamed up with private equity firm Blackstone (NYSE:BX) BX.N and infrastructure fund Macquarie MQG.AX to prepare a bid for Atlantia 's stake in its motorway unit, La Repubblica and Il Messagero said, citing sources. Italian private groups are also interested in Atlantia's motorway assets, including F2i, Gavio, Toto and Dogliani, Il Giornale said.

UNICREDIT CRDI.MI

Italy's second-biggest lender on Tuesday named economist Pier Carlo Padoan as director and said it would appoint the former Treasury chief as chairman when it renews the board next spring. Newspapers Il Sole24Ore and Il Messaggero consider Padoan's appointment as reinforcing the chances of an aggregation between the bank and its smaller competitor Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena BMPS.MI

The strengthening of the Unicredit-MPS hypothesis makes an aggregation between BANCO BPM and Credit Agricole CAGR.PA more likely, Il Messaggero added.

A potential tie up between UniCredit and Monte dei Paschi could also involve Banco BPM, Il Giornale said, without elaborating.

The Italian government would like to ask the European Commission to delay the Treasury's exit from the bank's capital by two years, to 2023, MF said. According to La Stampa, Rome would like to ask Brussels for a one-year postponement.

Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) Prime Video has secured rights to show in Italy 17 Champions League games per season for the 2021-24 period offering to pay around 80 million euros a year, news agency Radiocor reported on Tuesday.

Italy's bourse said that as of Wednesday orders without a price limit on the telecoms group's shares would be banned. Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte speaks before Chamber of Deputies ahead of the Oct. 15-16 European Council meeting (0730 GMT).
