ECONOMY (*) Italy's government is working to insert in the upcoming budget law the tender for the frequencies of super-fast fifth generation (5G) mobile network, from which it could pocket up to 2 billion euros, Il Sole 24 Ore reported. A decision is expected by Sept. 20 although Rome is still figuring out which frequencies must be freed up, the report added. (*) Several investment banks- including Goldman Sachs (NYSE:GS), Rothschild, Mediobanca, Credit Suisse (SIX:CSGN) and SocGen- and law firms are analysing a plan to maximise the profits of the government's privatisation push, by creating a big holding company headed by state-lender Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, reported Il Sole 24 Ore. All of the government's shares in state-controlled companies would be transferred to the holding and 35-49 percent of the new holding would be sold to an investor, the report added.

Italy's Treasury said on Thursday it would offer 6 billion euros ($7.08 billion) in six-month bills at auction on Tuesday. announces sale of BTP and CCTeu bonds, with relative amounts to be auctioned on Aug. 30.

ITALIAN BANKS

The Italian government faces a paper loss of more than 30 percent on its 3.85 billion euros ($4.54 billion) rescue of troubled lender Monte dei Paschi di Siena BMPS.MI , according to grey-market trading in the bank's new shares. CHRYSLER FCHA.MI (*) The group said on Friday it would evaluate any inquiries about potential transactions, but did not have anything to add to its previous comments on reported interest from China's Great Wall Motor 601633.SS in its Jeep brand. The first divestment the car maker is thinking of is that of components business Magneti Marelli, Il Sole 24 Ore reported.

Volkswagen VOWG_p.DE and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles have held discussions over joining hands to produce some light-utility vehicles, a source close to the matter said on Thursday. TELECOM ITALIA TLIT.MI

Other operators will be able to activate or carry out maintenance services on TIM's network from now on, Il Sole 24 Ore reported citing a decision by the national communications authority.

The Italian government will meet for the second time on Friday with regards to Vivendi 's VIV.PA influence over the phone group and is very likely to decide in favour of using a so-called "golden power" over the company, Corriere della Sera reported. A decision will be taken by prime minister Paolo Gentiloni in the short term, maybe even before the Franco-Italian meeting scheduled in September, the report added. The government is convinced that the group's international wholesale unit Sparkle must remain in Italian hands, given its strategic nature, Corriere added.

Spanish builder ACS ACS.MC is thinking of making a 17 euro per share offer for its counter bid on Spain's toll-road concessions company Abertis ABE.MC , against 16.5 euros per share offered by Italian infrastructure group Atlantia , several dailies reported citing El Confidencial. ACS is ready to finalise its offer in two or three weeks, Corriere della Sera added. Il Sole 24 Ore added that ACS declined to comment.

The discussions over the control of the STX France shipyards "have become a purely political debate" said the head of labour union CGT in a report by La Stampa. Francois Janvier, head of the Cfe-Cgc union, said that the workers do not care who has the majority but that the previous agreement, reached between Italy's Fincantieri and former president Francois Hollande, "had all the guarantees (needed) with regards to occupation levels and the defence of the company's know-how," the report added.
