Intra Energy Corporation Ltd (ASX:IEC) has kicked off maiden ground exploration at its Llama Lithium Project in the prolific James Bay region of Québec, Canada, aiming to gain a better understanding of the project’s geology and identify high-priority drill targets.
With government forest fire restrictions now lifted, the company has started ground-based fieldwork targeting up to 120 pegmatites that were identified for analysis.
Recent desktop analysis identified 108 new potential outcrops, adding to the original 12 pegmatites identified when the project was acquired
The company’s geological services partner in Canada, Dahrouge Geological Consulting, is undertaking the first stage of exploration activities with the aim of identifying high-priority drill targets. This involves fieldwork to test mapped pegmatites and pegmatite granites that have the potential to host mineralisation.
At heart of James Bay lithium
Intra Energy’s Llama project consists of 123 wholly-owned mineral claims in one block that spans around 63 square kilometres. The project is in the exploration heart of the James Bay region, sitting 65 kilometres from Winsome Resources’ Adina Project and 120 kilometres from Patriot Battery Metals’ Corvette Project.
Neighbouring companies, Loyal Lithium Ltd and Brunswick Exploration Inc, recently announced their own discoveries of spodumene-bearing pegmatites — continuing to highlight the region’s status as a world-class lithium district.
Loyal Lithium’s Trieste Project sits to the south of Llama and Brunswick Exploration’s Mirage Project north of Llama, respectively. Both companies have now provided updates on their exploration programs, confirming that the region has re-opened and mitigating concerns around accessibility after access was previously suspended in response to the forest fires.
Looking toward maiden drilling
Intra Energy intends to provide an update once the current round of work has been completed and says it is committed to advancing into the exploratory drilling phase at the earliest opportunity.
Managing director Benjamin Dunn said: “This is a great step forward for the company and its shareholders as we commence exploration at the Llama Lithium Project in James Bay, Québec, Canada.
"Our preparations including thorough data analysis have paved the way for a strategic exploration approach and we look forward to sharing those results to the market soon”.
