The International Mining and Resources Conference 2024 is gearing up to kick off on October 29-31 at the International Conference Centre in Sydney, featuring industry leaders, innovators, policymakers and stakeholders.
The conference’s focus this year will be mapping an accelerated path to net zero for the resources industry, while also expediting the extraction of critical minerals for low-emission technologies.
"IMARC 2024 is about creating a roadmap for the mining industry to meet its net zero commitments," said Sherene Asnasyous, event director – Content and Partnerships of IMARC.
"The program will highlight how the sector can fast-track the extraction of vital minerals and integrate innovative technologies to decarbonise operations.
“Our goal is to provide actionable insights and strategies that industry leaders can implement to drive meaningful change."
An international approach to decarbonisation
This year’s IMARC will feature more than 9,000 delegates from over 120 countries, including over 50 government delegations and features speakers from some of the largest resource organisations in Australia, including industry leaders like Newmont and Alcoa (NYSE:AA), and non-government organisations like the Minerals Council of Australia and Climate Energy Finance.
"IMARC 2024 will serve as a pivotal platform for the global mining community to collaborate and share best practices," said Anita Richards, chief operating officer of Beacon Events, which is organising the event.
"By bringing together stakeholders from key mining jurisdictions such as Canada, Chile, Peru and Mongolia, as well as countries involved in downstream and midstream processes like the UK, Germany, Sweden, Japan, Korea and the USA, we can collectively advance the industry's net zero agenda."
Facilitating innovation and collaboration
IMARC 2024 will also feature several co-located events and features, including the AROSE Mining and Space Conference.
Curated by Australian Remote Operations for Space and Earth (AROSE), and open to all IMARC attendees, the conference theme is “Where space exploration meets mining innovation,” showcasing requirements, capabilities and collaborations between the two industries.
Another highlight new to this year’s conference will be the IMARC Executive Briefings.
Two-hour-long sessions will bring together industry leaders and policymakers focused on critical topics poised to shape the future of the industry, including ESG Data and Disclosure, Managing WHS Risks in Mining, and Tailings Dam Management.
