Helix Resources Ltd (ASX:HLX) has successfully drummed up a new copper prospect and a number of new multi-element targets in an extensive exploration effort over the 2,200-square-kilometre Rochford Copper Trend Project in the Cobar copper district of New South Wales.
After a two-year hiatus from exploration prompted by weather-related land access issues, the company is leveraging a versatile time domain electromagnetic (VTEM) survey, multi-element geochemical sampling and historical data sets to scry for new copper opportunities.
The new prospect – dubbed Black Range – was discovered near historical copper workings, with a large-scale copper-bismuth-indium-tin-tungsten anomaly that covers an area of 6 kilometres by 1.7 kilometres and remains open to the north and south.
“Fabulous data sets”
“Our team is excited to finally be getting on the ground to test these targets,” Helix Resources managing director Mike Rosenstreich said.
“We are generating some fabulous data sets to be able to properly explore all of our large strategic land position.
“We want to make fresh copper discoveries and the modern technology we are using such as the VTEM geophysical survey we flew in 2021 and this multi-element geochemical work is an incredible leap forward to previous methods employed in being able to ‘see’ below the cover and detect mineralisation.
“This report highlights sophisticated multi-element analysis to create a consistent regional scale geochemical data set which we can merge with geophysical and other information to identify new mineralised targets for drilling.
“Our methodical approach is designed to effectively test the ground and hopefully, generate new discoveries.
“As highlighted in our March Quarterly, we have around $7 million cash, which is a serious sum to get us well down a new discovery pathway.
“We plan for this report to be part of an ongoing series on progress to achieve that new-discovery goal.”
Multi-element anomalies
Apart from Black Range, Heli also identified several new copper-zinc-arsenic anomalies in the southern portion of the Rochford Trend, which could be a continuation of the zone hosting the Canbelego-Caballero-Bijoux prospects.

In other news, the company expects to release a mineral resource estimate update for the Canbelego’s Main Lode by the end of June.
Helix has also mobilised a second auger drilling rig to accelerate its regional discovery program, and ground geophysical surveys are set to begin this month ahead of drill testing programs.
