Hawsons Iron Ltd (ASX:HIO) has tapped Paul Cassano to lead the Hawsons Iron project team as project director.
Cassano is an experienced mining executive with more than 30 years in executive general management, operations management and technical roles in the mining and resources sectors.
Extensive experience
His extensive experience includes divisional CEO and executive general manager roles at Downer, an executive general manager appointment at Thiess, and several management and leadership roles with BHP Billiton (LON:BHPB).
Cassano holds a Bachelor of Engineering in mining from the University of Sydney and a Master of Business Administration (Executive) from the University of Queensland.
He is a member of the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and the Australian Institute of Company Directors and has occupied the positions of statutory mine manager and site senior executive in previous roles.
Seeing through the BFS
Managing director Bryan Granzien said Cassano will take responsibility for seeing the current bankable feasibility study (BFS) through to completion, to meet the company’s objectives.
“Paul has extensive experience in the management of large mining operations, strategy and business development and will be a valuable addition to Hawsons Iron’s leadership team,” he said.
“While welcoming Paul, we reluctantly farewell Andre du Preez, who is leaving us for personal reasons. We wish him all the best for the future.”
Granzien said Cassano’s appointment presented an opportunity to further align the BFS team’s structure to meet project needs as the study progressed.
