GTI Energy Ltd (ASX:GTR, OTC:GTRIF) has added commercial & technical leadership capabilities to its Board of Directors by appointing experienced Denver-based ISR uranium specialist Matt Hartmann as a director.
Hartmann’s step-up to the board follows a period in which he has been instrumental in guiding the next phase of exploration and development at GTI’s US uranium projects in collaboration with its Wyoming-based team.
Strong track record
He has 20-plus years of global mineral exploration, project development and commercial experience, including a significant track record in the ISR uranium project life cycle.
Hartmann first entered into the uranium mining space in 2005 and his experience includes senior technical roles with Uranium Resources Inc. and Strathmore Minerals Corp.
He is also a former principal consultant at SRK Consulting where he provided advisory services to explorers, producers and prospective uranium investors, and he was also VP Technical Services for Sweetwater Royalties LLC, the largest private landowner in Wyoming.
These skills are expected to support GTI Energy to aggressively pursue its project development and commercialisation plans including strategic partnership opportunities.
A strengthening US sector
“I’m excited to be joining the board of GTI to help continue driving the company’s activities," Hartmann said.
"The US uranium sector has strengthened in 2024 and is poised to return to meaningful uranium production in the near term.
"GTI has established itself over the past three years in Wyoming and has assembled a portfolio of compelling uranium projects that would suggest the company is undervalued in the current uranium market.
"I look forward to continuing to work with the board to advance GTI’s US assets especially at Lo Herma which we plan to drill shortly.”
Uranium life cycle
Hartmann’s ISR uranium experience has brought him through the entire cycle of the business, from exploration, project studies and development, through production and well-field reclamation.
The new director has technical and managerial experience with ISR uranium projects including Cameco’s Smith Ranch–Highland ISR Uranium Mine, enCore Energy’s Rosita ISR Uranium Central Processing Plant and wellfield, Laramide’s Churchrock ISR Uranium Project and enCore’s Dewey-Burdock ISR Uranium Project.
Hartmann has also provided uranium ISR due diligence services to a number of private equity firms and Asian utility companies looking to invest in both uranium exploration and production in the US.
He will transition to non-executive duties at or around the time of completion of the planned Lo Herma drill program and will continue to provide technical and commercial guidance to support GTI as it progresses towards a scoping study for the project.
“A great outcome”
GTI executive director & CEO Bruce Lane said: “This is a great outcome for GTI and we are delighted that Matt has joined the board after having worked closely with the team in Wyoming to get to know the portfolio better and set us up for operational success.
"Matt’s skills and experience, particularly with ISR uranium in Wyoming, are a great addition to the board and his appointment, alongside that of Simon Williamson’s recent board appointment, is another positive step as we configure the company to accelerate the development of our Wyoming ISR uranium resources.
"I have no doubt that Matt’s experience, skills and network will contribute very positively to the board’s efforts to deliver positive outcomes for shareholders.”
