Green Technology Metals makes new pegmatite discovery east of Root Bay deposit

Green Technology Metals Ltd (ASX:GT1, OTC:GTMLF) has unveiled lithium assays from the Root Bay deposit within its wholly-owned Root Project, about 200 kilometres west of the flagship Seymour Lithium Project in Ontario, Canada.

Results show a new discovery, Root Bay East, just 1.3 kilometres east of the Root Bay deposit.

Assays have been acquired from the initial eight drill holes out of a total of 46 slated for the Root Bay exploration program.

Significant mineralised drill intercepts up to 23.3 metres thick include:

  • RBE-23-007 - 23.3 metres at 1.16% Li2O from 197 metres;
  • RBE-23-009 - 11.7 metres at 1.12% from 216.3 metres;
  • RBE-23-008 - 10.5 metres at 1.08% from 318 metres; and
  • RBE-23-005 - 3.9 metres at 2.17% from 188.7 metres.

GT1 is encouraged by the drill results to date from Root Bay East as the pegmatite intercepts show common characteristics to the Root Bay deposit:

  • The same aero-magnetic geophysical trend;
  • Meta-basalt host rocks; and
  • Coarse-grained spodumene-bearing pegmatites intercepted.
  • At Root Bay West, intercepts to date have been narrower than those of the east but are still hosted along the same geological trend and hosted within meta-basalts, the common host to all GT1’s assets, and demonstrate the area is still considered fertile ground for future LCT spodumene discoveries.

    Substantial mineralisation confirmed

    These early findings confirm substantial lithium mineralisation, notably located 1.3 kilometres eastward from the 10.1 million tonnes Root Bay Deposit. This promising discovery indicates the potential to delineate additional stacked pegmatite systems along the strike at Root Bay.

    Furthermore, the drill results highlight the possibility of further pegmatite systems extending along strike. Several narrow pegmatites were also identified to the west, suggesting the need for deeper drilling in that direction to target potential mineralisation.

    The promise of the initial exploration to the east of Root Bay has prompted the company to prioritise additional drilling in this direction. A substantial expanse of prospective ground remains untested, underlining the exciting potential for further discoveries and advancements in this project.

    “We have now intersected spodumene-bearing pegmatites up to 23 metres thick to the east of the Root Bay deposit highlighting the fertility of the area, suggesting significant potential for repetition of the Root Bay deposit, along strike,” GT1 chief executive officer Luke Cox said.

    “Our geophysical interpretation has also delineated similar regional structural settings to the east and north of the Root Bay area, highlighting how underexplored and prospective the area is for future discoveries.”

    Root Bay’s geological potential

    As well as unveiling multiple stacked LCT pegmatites, GT1's exploration efforts have also yielded a substantial mineral resource estimate. This estimate comprises 14.6 million tonnes at 1.21% Li2O, with a breakdown of 9.4 million tonnes at 1.30% Li2O indicated and 5.2 million tonnes at 1.03% Li2O inferred, primarily sourced from the McCombe and Root Bay deposits.

    Currently, GT1 is in the middle of an extensive diamond drilling program consisting of 46 holes and spanning a length of 8,440 metres.

    The focus of this program is directed towards the underexplored eastern and western extensions of the Root Bay deposit. This area holds immense promise, as the geological trend stretches across GT1's tenement and is characterized by the highly magnetic BIF unit along the northern boundary of the Root Bay deposit.

    GT1's geophysical interpretation has provided valuable insights into the geological aspects of the region, particularly the structural context. This interpretation has identified priority target areas, with Root Bay East being a notable success, confirming the presence of significant spodumene-bearing LCT pegmatites.

    Of significant importance, the interpretation has delineated shear zones both bounding and internal to the greenstone belts, indicative of multiple deformational phases.

    The complex magnetic patterns reveal extensive deformation within the greenstones, a key factor associated with mineralization.

    Moreover, numerous smaller zones of alteration or potential non-magnetic intrusions have been identified, defining local faults, alteration zones and subtle structural settings with the potential to host lithium mineralisation.

    On a broader scale, structural settings to the east and north have been assessed and delineated, warranting further exploration efforts in the upcoming field season to unlock their geological potential.
