Green Technology Metals Ltd (ASX:GT1, OTC:GTMLF) has launched an extensive 14,000-metre diamond drilling program at its Root Lithium Project in Ontario, Canada.
The drilling should set the stage for future resource growth and project development in one of Canada’s premier lithium regions.
Expanding the lithium resource
“We are excited to be back on the ground at the highly prospective Root Lithium project, as we continue to explore and further expand the 14.6-million-tonne resource,” said managing director Cameron Henry.
“Last year, we completed our maiden drilling program at Root Bay East which validated significant potential for the repetition of the Root Bay deposit along strike, so we are looking forward to continuing our drilling program over this area after we complete the extension drilling at Root Bay.
“I’m currently on-site in Canada, where I’ve had the opportunity to spend time with GT1's geology and drilling teams during the first week of drilling.
Activity resumes at Root
“It’s great to see activity resuming at Root, with the camp reopening and our personnel remobilising.”
The company hopes the multi-phase drilling campaign will expand the existing lithium resource at Root Bay and further delineate mineralisation at Root Bay East.
The first phase of the program consists of a 10,000-metre, 16-hole deep extensional drilling initiative at the Root Bay deposit.
This phase will test the potential for underground resource expansion and assess mineralisation continuity below the current open-pit inventory. Success in this phase could extend mine life and enhance project economics.
Key objectives for the first phase include drilling priority deep extension holes to examine down-dip continuity and conducting additional infill drilling.
Highlights accumulate
Previous drilling in the area identified thick, high-grade pegmatites at depths of up to 300 metres downdip of the open-pit extents, including results such as:
11.1 metres at 1.18% lithium oxide from 440.6 metres; and
18.4 metres at 1.53% lithium oxide from 580.1 metres.
The second phase, a 4,000-metre program at Root Bay East, will build on last year’s maiden drilling success.
The 2023 campaign identified seven stacked pegmatites along an 800-metre east-west trend, with significant intercepts including:
23.3 metres at 1.16% lithium oxide from 197 metres;
11.7 metres at 1.12% lithium oxide from 216.3 metres.
The company is expected to update its mineral resource estimate (MRE) following the completion of both phases and the receipt of assay results.
