Galileo Mining Ltd (ASX:GAL) is poised to begin an extensive program of drilling at the Norseman Project in Western Australia, targeting nickel and platinum-group-elements (PGE) at the Callisto, Mission Sill and Jimberlana prospects.
GAL’s recent diamond drilling program investigated mineralisation to the north of the Callisto discovery, showing further potential for growth after hitting a mineralised interval outside the current extent of Callisto’s mineralised horizon.
The company also determined the location of a potential fold structure that could account for a wide intersection of 72 metres at 1.16 g/t platinum + palladium + gold (3E), 0.20% copper and 0.24 % nickel, which represents a priority target for follow up drilling.
Galileo intends to complete some 4,000 metres of reverse circulation (RC) drilling at the Mission Sill and Jimberlana prospects in late June or July, investigating more strong assay results.
First regional program post Callisto discovery
“Callisto continues to deliver good drill intercepts highlighting that we have yet to understand the full extent of the discovery,” Galileo Mining managing director Brad Underwood said.
“Diamond drilling is progressing to the north, and we are working on the prospective stratigraphy that occurs over five kilometres with pending assays for five drill holes already completed in this area.
“Meanwhile, preparations are well advanced for RC drilling at our Jimberlana and Mission Sill prospects where previous aircore drilling and geophysical surveying have defined high quality targets for testing.
“Drilling at Jimberlana and Mission Sill will mark the beginning of our first regional exploration campaign at our 255-square-kilometre Norseman project since the discovery of Callisto.
“We believe the information gained from over 10,000 metres of diamond drilling and 20,000 metres of RC drilling has given us a good understanding of the ground we are exploring and consequently increased the likelihood of further success.
“We are very excited to be exploring a newly discovered palladium-nickel district and look forward to all of the upcoming drilling.”
Pathfinder assay results
Galileo’s recent drilling produced several results of note for further follow up exploration, including:
Callisto:
- 24 metres at 1.76 g/t 3E (1.43 g/t palladium, 0.25 g/t platinum, 0.08 g/t gold), 0.24% copper and 0.26% nickel from 462 metres including a higher-grade interval of:
- 5 metres at 2.63 g/t 3E (2.16 g/t palladium, 0.35 g/t platinum, 0.12 g/t gold), 0.35% copper & 0.36% nickel from 470 metres.
Mission Sill:
- 8 metres at 1.44 g/t 2E (palladium + platinum), 0.11% nickel & 0.01% copper from 8 metres; and
- 15 metres at 0.44 g/t 2E (palladium + platinum), 0.14% nickel & 0.05% copper from surface.
At Jimberlana GAL targeted a strong electromagnetic (EM) conductors beneath previous aircore drilling and hit a 1-metre bottom of hole intercept:
- 1-metre at 0.25 g/t palladium, 0.35% copper ,0.24 % nickel & 0.04% cobalt from 60 metres.
