Flynn Gold Ltd (ASX:FG1) has confirmed the discovery of three new pegmatite intrusions at its wholly-owned Lake Johnston Lithium Project in Western Australia.
This advancement comes as part of the company's initial mapping and sampling program, which aims to uncover potential lithium-bearing pegmatite mineralisation.
The company's exploration team completed the first phase of this program, collecting 281 soil samples and three rock chip samples.
This development underscores the area's potential for further discoveries, as the region is known for its highly weathered and shallow-covered terrane, making it conducive to uncovering more pegmatite intrusions.
In lithium spotlight
Flynn Gold managing director and CEO Neil Marston said: “The recent discovery of high-grade lithium associated with buried pegmatites at the nearby Burmeister Project has thrown the Lake Johnston region into the lithium spotlight.
"Flynn Gold has been quick to respond, deploying a team into the field to complete sampling and mapping on our adjacent ground.
“We are encouraged that this initial field work has identified a further three pegmatite outcrops, adding to the three previously mapped pegmatites identified on our licence.
“Over the coming days samples from these pegmatites together with 281 soil samples will be processed by the laboratory, analysing for lithium and key pathfinder minerals.
“We eagerly await the results from this program with the expectation that those results will aid in generating targets for follow-up mapping, sampling and drilling.”
Forward plan
Further soil sampling is proposed to follow once the results of this initial survey are received.
Initial aircore and/or RC drilling programs will be undertaken subject to the results of the early-stage assessment programs.
In the meantime, further interpretation of multi-client aeromagnetic and gravity data will be carried out to assist with interpretation of the geology and the identification of additional target zones.
A detailed gravity survey may also be considered to assist with targeting and interpretative work.
Flynn Gold's strategic positioning of the Lake Johnston Project, just 7 kilometres southeast of TG Metals Ltd's Burmeister Lithium Project, adds significant value to its exploration efforts.
The company regards the Lake Johnston Project as highly prospective for lithium, particularly in spodumene-rich pegmatites.
