Boeing (NYSE:BA) doesn’t expect to receive approval for the 737 MAX 10 before next summer, Reuters reports. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reportedly sent a letter to Senator Roger Wicker, the top Republican on the Senate Commerce Committee, saying:

“With regard to the 737-10, Boeing's current project plan timeline has the 737-10 receiving an amended type certificate no sooner than summer 2023.”

"We're committed to diligently and thoroughly reviewing the documentation as it is submitted.”

The letter comes after Wicker asked Congress for an extension of the deadline for Boeing to win approval until September 2024. The current deadline expires in December this year.

Boeing accepted orders for MAX 10 jets from Delta Air Lines (NYSE:DAL), as well as some other carriers. The company’s management said recently that they still believe there’s a chance that the FAA certifies MAX 10 before the end of the year.

Boeing shares are up 1.8% in pre-open trading Tuesday.
