Elon Musk has unveiled his latest venture, an artificial intelligence company named ‘xAI’, with a goal to “understand the true nature of the universe.”

xAI is set to work in conjunction with Twitter, Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) and other companies under Musk’s ownership to progress in their mission.

Currently, xAI is seeking to hire experienced engineers and researchers in the San Francisco Bay area to strengthen its team, with Dan Hendrycks, the director of the Center for AI Safety, named as advisor for the initiative.

Notable team

The team at xAI has previously held positions at recognised organisations like DeepMind, OpenAI, Google (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Research, Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) Research, Tesla and the University of Toronto.

The collective contributions to AI, including innovations such as the Adam optimiser, Batch Normalisation and Layer Normalization, as well as the discovery of adversarial examples, have been widely recognised.

This team’s past projects include notable developments such as AlphaStar, AlphaCode, Inception, Minerva, GPT-3.5 and GPT-4.

More clarity tomorrow

At present, specifics about xAI’s financial backing, precise goals and the extent of its focus on artificial intelligence are yet to be clarified.

The company’s website, nonetheless, articulates an ambitious mission to grasp the inherent nature of the universe.

In order to further elaborate on its objectives, xAI has planned a discussion on Twitter Spaces tomorrow.
