A soil sampling program has seen Dynamic Metals Ltd confirm and extend a large historical lithium soil anomaly at the Lake Percy Project in the Goldfields Region of Western Australia with a peak lithium oxide value of 314 parts per million (ppm) returned.

An infill and orientation soil sampling program was completed recently with 762 samples taken at 40-metre spacings on sampling lines, with line spacings between 200 and 400 metres.

This has seen the lithium anomaly of greater than 100ppm extended over a strike of 2.5 kilometres and width of 2 kilometres at Lake Percy, which covers the northern extents of the Lake Johnson greenstone belt.

Lithium anomalies have now been defined near historic drilling with multiple, wide pegmatites logged up to 81 metres (downhole width) with elevated lithium values.

“Very encouraging”

“The results from the recent soil sampling program at Lake Percy are very encouraging, and we are looking forward to receiving the analysis of the lithium assay suite to further refine potential drill targets and advance our exploration efforts for lithium at Lake Percy,” Dynamic Metals managing director Karen Wellman said.

Dynamic Metals is systematically evaluating the lithium potential of its substantial land package in WA and following the Widgiemooltha Project transaction with Mineral Resources, focus has turned to understanding the potential for hard rock lithium mineralisation at Lake Percy.

About Lake Percy

Lake Percy Project is around 120 kilometres west of Norseman, along the Hyden-Norseman Road. The company’s tenements have historically been explored for nickel but more recently identified as having significant lithium potential as realised by Charger Metals with the Medcalf spodumene discovery and the Burmeister discovery by TG Metals.

The project is near the Mt Day LCT pegmatite field 20 kilometres to the southeast as well as the Earl Grey Lithium Project about 60 kilometres to the west, which is under development by Covalent Lithium Pty Ltd, a joint venture between subsidiaries of Sociedad Quimica y Minera de Chile S.A (SQM) and Wesfarmers (ASX:WES) Limited.

Previous work

During 2015 and 2016 the tenement was held by White Cliff Nickel Limited which conducted lithium-focused soil sampling and established Lake Percy as an area of interest concerning lithium potential.

In 2016, White Cliff entered into a JV agreement with Liontown Resources (ASX:LTR), which drilled eight holes in early 2017 focused on the southwestern portion of the lithium anomaly.

Whilst no ore-grade lithium intercepts were reported, multiple pegmatite intervals were encountered with downhole widths up to 81 metres downhole.

By mid-2017, Liontown had exploration success at the Kathleen Valley and Bynoe lithium projects, and subsequently withdrew from the Lake Percy region. Minimal work on the lithium potential has been completed at Lake Percy since that time.

Pulps submitted

In 2023, Dynamic completed two phases of drilling targeting nickel and intersected multiple intervals of pegmatites with grades up to 1,170ppm lithium (2,520ppm Li2O).

The company has selected sample pulps of pegmatite intervals and submitted to the assay laboratory for full lithium suite analysis as the use of ratios of other elements (ie K/Rb ratio) has been widely used globally to understand the degree of fractionation as a guide to the fertility of the pegmatites.

Information from the full lithium suite analysis will be used to inform the geological model in conjunction with the increased knowledge and broader understanding of the nature of lithium around Lake Johnson derived from the recent Medcalf and Burmeister discoveries to guide further lithium target generation.
