CuFe Ltd (ASX:CUF) has appointed experienced geologist, company director and former Rio Tinto (ASX:RIO) Exploration executive David Palmer to its board as a non-executive director, effective February 1, 2025.

Palmer’s appointment is expected to strengthen the company’s strategic capabilities in its target commodities and regions.

Australian mining know-how

CuFe executive chair Tony Sage said: “We are excited to have Dave join the CuFe board.

“His knowledge of the Australian exploration landscape is exceptional and his extensive technical and commercial experience in our target commodities and jurisdictions will be very valuable for the company.

“We look forward to his insights which we believe have the potential to bring substantial benefit to CuFe and its shareholders.”

He brings nearly 40 years of global exploration experience, including an extensive tenure with Rio Tinto, where he focused on copper, gold, base metals, industrial minerals, uranium, iron ore and diamonds across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.

Palmer is a member of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM) and the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) and holds a Bachelor of Science with First Class Honours from the University of Newcastle.

World-class copper-gold find

During his career, Palmer has held senior roles in business development, mineral title and indigenous engagement functions.

Notably, he was part of the management team involved in the discovery of the world-class Winu copper-gold deposit.

The appointment coincides with the resignation of Nicholas Sage from the CuFe board, also effective February 1.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Nic for his many of years of service to the CuFe board and wish him well in his future endeavours,” Tony Sage said.
