Corazon Mining Ltd (ASX:CZN) has kicked off the next stage of drilling at the flagship Lynn Lake Nickel Sulphide Project in Canada, an exploration program consisting of six drilled holes for about 2,000 metres of drilling.

This program will target four areas of interest within the Lynn Lake Mining Centre in Manitoba, exploring the targets for extensions of existing mineralisation and collecting metallurgical samples for further testing.

The bulk metallurgical samples will be leveraged for ore-upgrade and ore-sorting studies, which will inform Corazon’s planning down the line – the company aims to turn Lynn Lake into a low-cost, long-life nickel sulphide mining operation.

The four priority areas targeted in the drilling campaign are 'D-extensions', 'Upper F', 'E-J North' and 'K-D Hotspot'.

In addition to the current extensional exploration program, Corazon is also focused on metallurgical test-work to upgrade lower-grade areas of the deposit – a key part of the company’s low-cost, long-life strategy.

At present Corazon is:

  • finalising the flotation process;
  • investigating pre-flotation ore-upgrade of low-grade material; and
  • undertaking initial work on the amenability of Lynn Lake mineralisation to produce battery-grade products for rechargeable lithium-ion batteries.
The company believes these metallurgical upgrades could have multiple benefits, including:

  • upgrading sub-grade mineralisation;
  • simplifying modelling and incorporating more mineralised material into said models;
  • increasing stope size and moving the project towards a large-tonnage, low-cost mining operation; and
  • enable the company to upgrade ore underground to reduce handling and capital costs.
