Cooper Metals Ltd (ASX:CPM) has kicked-off a follow-up drilling campaign at the Mt Isa Copper-Gold Project in Queensland, designed to test shallow copper and gold mineralisation identified at King Solomon 1 and break first ground at the untested Python prospect nearby.
The company intends to complete 2,500 metres of reverse circulation (RC) drilling over several targets at the two prospects:
- four holes at Python, two targeting an electromagnetic (EM) conductor just below surface and two testing beneath a historical mine shaft and open pit nearby; and,
- three holes targeting plunging shoots of higher-grade copper and gold mineralisation at King Solomon 1, testing for mineralisation at depth.
Cooper Metals expects to complete this follow-up campaign in three to four weeks – beginning at King Solomon and moving on to Python once that drilling is complete.
Investigating promising EM conductors
“We have been looking forward to drill testing the Python FLEM conductor since it was announced in March this year,” Cooper Metals managing director Ian Warland said.
“The drilling will commence at King Solomon on high priority targets testing depth extension of the down plunge component of three separate copper-gold shoots, as well as some induced polarisation (IP) anomalies identified in July.

“Then it will move to Python to drill 2 holes into the EM conductor and 2 holes underneath the old workings.
Python Prospect's versatile time domain electromagnetic (VTEM) and fixed-loop electromagnetic (FLEM) conductors.
“As usual, promising RC samples with evidence of copper sulphides will be pushed through the laboratory, and the market updated as results come to hand.”
