Cobre Ltd (ASX:CBE) has struck visible copper at the Comet target at the Ngami Copper Project (NCP) in the Kalahari Copper Belt (KCB) of Botswana, raising its economic potential significantly.

Drill hole NCP20A intersected a 45-metre zone of copper mineralisation, consisting primarily of chalcocite with subordinate chrysocolla from 114 to 159 metres downhole.

NCP20A is part of the ongoing drilling campaign targeting structurally controlled high-grade mineralisation within the Comet target, which is defined by its extensive 4-kilometre footprint of anomalous chalcocite mineralisation.

Based on visual estimates, supported by pXRF measurements, significant mineralisation was intersected in the lower 30 metres of the zone, increasing in abundance from about 0.6% to 1% chalcocite at the top of the zone to over 10% chalcocite at the base of the zone.

The latest results prove that the Comet target hosts high-grade zones bearing similarities to other known deposits in the KCB.

NCP20A is located 250 metres southwest of NCP08, where earlier drilling returned 10.7 metres at 1.3% copper and 18 g/t silver.

Validates exploration model

“Since our initial discovery at the NCP, we have moved rapidly to drill out the potential of this new copper district,” Cobre executive chairman and managing director Martin Holland said.

“Cobre is delighted with the latest copper discovery intersection which has both the thickness and grade to move the economics on the Comet target. Importantly, these results provide further evidence for the team’s current exploration model by demonstrating that high-grade zones of mineralisation occur along this extensive target.

“This discovery hole is a significant step forward in the company’s journey to unlocking a copper deposit in the KCB, and we look very forward to providing updates on our ongoing drilling program as we advance this exciting new copper district.”
