Castillo Copper Ltd (ASX:CCZ, LSE:CCZ) has wrapped up an auger sampling campaign targeting a 6.5-square-kilometre area within the rare earth element (REE) exploration footprint near the Fence Gossan prospect, part of the BHA Project in Far West New South Wales.
The objective of the campaign was to determine the full extent of REE mineralisation within the area sampled and identify new targets to test-drill.
Shallow REE widely apparent
The program was spurred on when drill assays for the Fence Gossan, Tors Tank and Reefs Tank prospects confirmed that shallow REE mineralisation is more widely apparent across the project’s East Zone than previously thought.
Accordingly, the board commissioned the extensive auger sampling program with samples taken at depths of 0.1 to 0.4 metres by hand auger.
The geology team has dispatched all samples to the laboratory for follow-up analyses and hopes to get the full picture of REE mineralisation potential when results are back in the next four to six weeks.
Once the board has reviewed all the results and had an opportunity to get a handle on the extent of the mineralisation, it will chart the course for the next phase of REE-focused exploration across the BHA Project’s East Zone.
Highlight for 2022
Castillo Copper managing director Dr Dennis Jensen said: “Without question, the highlight event for 2022 has been the shallow REE discovery within BHA Project’s East Zone.
“The board is eagerly awaiting assay results from the drilling and auger sampling campaigns, as they will enable us to chart the next phase of exploration.
“In addition, the board has commissioned a site visit to several prospects within the NWQ Copper Project during Q1 2023 to determine which should be prioritised for further development work.
“Overall, the board remains focused on developing projects within the portfolio that deliver the greatest potential to create value for shareholders.”
NWQ Copper Project
CCZ’s geology team have been reviewing all the prospects within the Northwest Queensland (NWQ) Copper Project and has selected several to visit during the first quarter of 2023.
The key objective of the upcoming site visit will be to ascertain the potential for these to host copper mineralisation and further follow-up development work.
