Carnavale Resources Ltd (ASX:CAV) has completed its extended program of reverse circulation (RC) drilling at the McTavish East Prospect within the Kookynie Gold Project in Western Australia.

This program of 10 holes for 1,550 metres was following up on strong, extensional high-grade gold results from previous shallow aircore drilling in the regolith.

It targeted fresh rock in northern extensions identified by CAV’s aircore drilling at McTavish East.

Completed safely

Carnavale’s CEO Humphrey Hale said: “The RC drilling at Kookynie testing the high-grade gold hits in the extensional aircore, has been safely completed over the weekend.

"The geology encountered in the early drilling was encouraging so we were pleased to have added additional drilling to the program.”

CAV initially planned to drill eight RC holes for 1,400 metres but this was extended to 1,550 metres as the geology and structure intersected was highly encouraging.

Aircore follow-up

The RC drilling targeted ground below previous extensional aircore drilling results that included:

  • 10 metres at 5.78 g/t gold from 32 metres, including 6 metres at 9.08 g/t and 2 metres at 1.4 g/t;
  • 4 metres at 13.28 g/t from 24 metres and 2 metres at 1.14 g/t from 32 metres;
  • 8 metres at 4.98 g/t from 44 metres, including 6 metres at 6.37 g/t; and
  • 9 metres at 2.88 g/t from 54 metres, ended in mineralisation.
The main mineralising structure that hosts McTavish East extends over 2.5 kilometres to the Champion South Prospect.

The mineralising trend is steeply dipping to the east and is structurally controlled by northeast striking structures that can be interpreted from the aeromagnetic images flown by Carnavale in late 2020.
