Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Healthcare, Energy and IT sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 1.97% to hit a new 52-week low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were West Fraser Timber Co Ltd (TSX:WFG), which rose 4.19% or 4.14 points to trade at 102.88 at the close. Primo Water Corp (TSX:PRMW) added 2.46% or 0.44 points to end at 18.32 and OceanaGold Corporation (TSX:OGC) was up 2.36% or 0.05 points to 2.17 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Canopy Growth Corp (TSX:WEED), which lost 14.36% or 0.55 points to trade at 3.28 in late trade. Athabasca Oil Corp (TSX:ATH) declined 9.27% or 0.24 points to end at 2.35 and BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB) shed 8.74% or 0.55 points to 5.74.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 882 to 170 and 63 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 2.53% to 22.73.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.07% or 1.10 to $1,674.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 2.80% or 2.55 to hit $88.58 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 2.65% or 2.55 to trade at $93.64 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.08% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.15% to 0.75.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 113.15.
