Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Energy, Healthcare and IT sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 1.13%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were IAMGold Corporation (TSX:IMG), which rose 4.40% or 0.14 points to trade at 3.32 at the close. Superior Plus Corp (TSX:SPB) added 3.88% or 0.38 points to end at 10.18 and ECN Capital Corp (TSX:ECN) was up 2.57% or 0.07 points to 2.79 in late trade.
Biggest losers included BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB), which lost 8.04% or 0.41 points to trade at 4.69 in late trade. Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TSX:IVN) declined 6.83% or 0.76 points to end at 10.36 and Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC) shed 5.74% or 0.54 points to 8.87.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 639 to 358 and 113 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 18.16% to 16.66.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 1.41% or 25.70 to $1,799.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.03% or 0.02 to hit $78.27 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.57% or 0.47 to trade at $81.73 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.26% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.13% to 0.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.25% at 104.11.
