Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Healthcare, Clean Technology and IT sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 1.11%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Ero Copper Corp (TSX:ERO), which rose 8.13% or 1.15 points to trade at 15.30 at the close. Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (TSX:WDO) added 6.08% or 0.51 points to end at 8.90 and Torex Gold Resources Inc (TSX:TXG) was up 4.65% or 0.42 points to 9.45 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Linamar Corporation (TSX:LNR), which lost 11.63% or 7.06 points to trade at 53.62 in late trade. Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP) declined 10.19% or 0.95 points to end at 8.37 and Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP) shed 7.98% or 3.18 points to 36.68.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 702 to 305 and 87 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 9.59% to 25.38 a new 3-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.07% or 1.15 to $1,668.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.58% or 0.48 to hit $81.67 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.58% or 0.51 to trade at $87.54 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.63% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR fell 1.32% to 0.74.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.37% at 112.10.
