Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Clean Technology, IT and Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.95% to hit a new 1-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Stelco Holdings Inc (TSX:STLC), which rose 8.42% or 2.70 points to trade at 34.76 at the close. Teck Resources Ltd B (TSX:TECKb) added 2.62% or 1.08 points to end at 42.38 and HudBay Minerals Inc (TSX:HBM) was up 2.01% or 0.11 points to 5.58 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Canopy Growth Corp (TSX:WEED), which lost 7.09% or 0.28 points to trade at 3.67 in late trade. Nuvei Corp (TSX:NVEI) declined 6.86% or 2.78 points to end at 37.74 and Dye & Durham Ltd (TSX:DND) shed 6.51% or 0.84 points to 12.06.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 819 to 210 and 84 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.63% to 22.58.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.24% or 4.00 to $1,679.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.53% or 0.44 to hit $83.38 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.49% or 0.44 to trade at $90.27 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.15% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.10% to 0.75.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.66% at 111.07.
