Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Healthcare, Energy and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.81% to hit a new 1-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Thomson Reuters Corporation (TO:TRI), which rose 7.05% or 3.78 points to trade at 57.37 at the close. Guyana Goldfields Inc . (TO:GUY) added 3.47% or 0.160 points to end at 4.770 and Stella-Jones Inc. (TO:SJ) was up 2.44% or 1.22 points to 51.16 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Endeavour Mining Corp (TO:EDV), which lost 13.15% or 3.300 points to trade at 21.800 in late trade. Torex Gold Resources Inc (TO:TXG) declined 9.78% or 1.380 points to end at 12.730 and Canopy Growth Corp (TO:WEED) shed 7.92% or 2.620 points to 30.480.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 827 to 337 and 105 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 3.68% to 13.23 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.26% or 3.50 to $1336.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.83% or 1.20 to hit $64.36 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 1.24% or 0.86 to trade at $68.34 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.06% to 0.8109, while CAD/EUR fell 0.08% to 0.6540.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.16% at 89.03.
