Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Healthcare, Consumer Discretionary and IT sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.68%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Vermilion Energy Inc . (TSX:VET), which rose 5.07% or 1.68 points to trade at 34.79 at the close. PrairieSky Royalty Ltd (TSX:PSK) added 3.57% or 0.61 points to end at 17.70 and Birchcliff Energy Ltd . (TSX:BIR) was up 3.11% or 0.35 points to 11.61 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Canopy Growth Corp (TSX:WEED), which lost 13.71% or 0.68 points to trade at 4.28 in late trade. Turquoise Hill Resources Ltd. (TSX:TRQ) declined 9.59% or 2.99 points to end at 28.20 and Magna International Inc (TSX:MG) shed 6.49% or 5.24 points to 75.54.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 731 to 287 and 103 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 11.04% to 20.62.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.84% or 14.80 to $1,748.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.07% or 0.06 to hit $90.50 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.06% or 0.06 to trade at $96.66 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.36% to 0.77, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.56% to 0.77.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.72% at 108.88.
