Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Healthcare, IT and Industrials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.57%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were HudBay Minerals Inc (TSX:HBM), which rose 4.46% or 0.30 points to trade at 7.02 at the close. Lundin Mining Corporation (TSX:LUN) added 3.16% or 0.28 points to end at 9.13 and North West Company Inc (TSX:NWC) was up 2.77% or 1.01 points to 37.47 in late trade.
Biggest losers included NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX:NG), which lost 8.39% or 0.74 points to trade at 8.08 in late trade. Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAC) declined 7.83% or 2.21 points to end at 26.03 and BELLUS Health Inc. (TSX:BLU) shed 6.97% or 0.65 points to 8.68.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 643 to 341 and 92 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 3.91% to 15.68.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.04% or 0.85 to $2,037.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.42% or 0.34 to hit $80.37 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.21% or 0.18 to trade at $84.76 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.11% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.36% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.34% at 101.61.
