Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the IT, Energy and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.55%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Ero Copper Corp (TSX:ERO), which rose 5.11% or 1.07 points to trade at 22.00 at the close. Canadian Tire Corp Ltd (TSX:CTCa) added 5.05% or 8.32 points to end at 173.00 and Teck Resources Ltd B (TSX:TECKb) was up 4.98% or 2.80 points to 59.05 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP), which lost 15.47% or 11.05 points to trade at 60.39 in late trade. MTY Food Group Inc (TSX:MTY) declined 5.88% or 4.32 points to end at 69.17 and Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP) shed 4.60% or 0.40 points to 8.30.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 545 to 433 and 127 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 2.84% to 13.38.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.04% or 0.65 to $1,845.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.59% or 0.46 to hit $78.13 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.75% or 0.64 to trade at $84.74 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.45% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.27% to 0.70.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 103.98.
