Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Healthcare, Consumer Discretionary and Consumer Staples sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.52%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Dye & Durham Ltd (TSX:DND), which rose 17.83% or 7.31 points to trade at 48.30 at the close. Whitecap Resources Inc . (TSX:WCP) added 6.81% or 0.39 points to end at 6.12 and Enerplus Corporation (TSX:ERF) was up 4.05% or 0.32 points to 8.22 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Cronos Group Inc (TSX:CRON), which lost 4.53% or 0.49 points to trade at 10.32 in late trade. OrganiGram Holdings Inc (TSX:OGI) declined 3.78% or 0.14 points to end at 3.69 and Canopy Growth Corp (TSX:WEED) shed 3.72% or 1.170 points to 30.280.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 519 to 482 and 111 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.22% or 4.20 to $1909.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.90% or 0.60 to hit $66.92 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.86% or 0.59 to trade at $69.31 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.08% to 0.8290, while CAD/EUR fell 0.24% to 0.6781.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.19% at 89.820.
