Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the IT, Telecoms and Consumer Discretionary sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.44% to hit a new 1-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Teck Resources Ltd B (TSX:TECKb), which rose 3.89% or 1.96 points to trade at 52.32 at the close. Suncor Energy Inc (TSX:SU) added 2.51% or 1.08 points to end at 44.18 and Birchcliff Energy Ltd . (TSX:BIR) was up 2.47% or 0.20 points to 8.29 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb), which lost 6.66% or 3.69 points to trade at 51.74 in late trade. OceanaGold Corporation (TSX:OGC) declined 5.00% or 0.14 points to end at 2.66 and Quebecor Inc Class B (TSX:QBRb) shed 3.94% or 1.31 points to 31.90.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 664 to 310 and 113 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 1.40% to 13.05.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.52% or 9.95 to $1,918.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.93% or 0.74 to hit $80.12 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.46% or 0.38 to trade at $83.83 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.09% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.03% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was unchanged 0.00% at 103.32.
