Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Healthcare, IT and Energy sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.42%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Mullen Group Ltd . (TSX:MTL), which rose 6.25% or 0.82 points to trade at 13.94 at the close. Boardwalk REIT (TSX:BEI_u) added 4.24% or 1.93 points to end at 47.41 and Canadian Apartment Properties REIT (TSX:CAR_u) was up 3.39% or 1.54 points to 47.03 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX:ACB), which lost 8.12% or 0.16 points to trade at 1.81 in late trade. Canopy Growth Corp (TSX:WEED) declined 7.28% or 0.26 points to end at 3.31 and Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP) shed 7.28% or 3.79 points to 48.24.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 544 to 460 and 101 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 1.39% to 21.96.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.53% or 9.10 to $1,722.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.74% or 1.68 to hit $94.67 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.58% or 0.60 to trade at $103.26 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.32% to 0.77, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.11% to 0.76.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.33% at 106.46.
