Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Healthcare, IT and Energy sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.41%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Turquoise Hill Resources Ltd. (TSX:TRQ), which rose 6.25% or 0.040 points to trade at 0.680 at the close. OceanaGold Corporation (TSX:OGC) added 5.79% or 0.210 points to end at 3.840 and First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM) was up 4.81% or 0.53 points to 11.56 in late trade.
Biggest losers included BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB), which lost 22.66% or 2.25 points to trade at 7.68 in late trade. Cronos Group Inc (TSX:CRON) declined 8.56% or 1.1600 points to end at 12.3900 and Methanex Corporation (TSX:MX) shed 7.40% or 3.67 points to 45.95.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 640 to 380 and 137 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 3.66% to 13.03.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.51% or 7.75 to $1539.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 3.14% or 1.84 to hit $56.80 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.02% or 0.01 to trade at $62.44 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.07% to 0.7556, while CAD/EUR rose 0.13% to 0.6859.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.29% at 97.938.
