Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Clean Technology, Industrials and Energy sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.33%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Maple Leaf Foods Inc . (TO:MFI), which rose 7.34% or 1.99 points to trade at 29.10 at the close. Bausch Health Companies Inc (TO:BHC) added 6.77% or 2.22 points to end at 35.00 and Ensign Energy Services Inc (TO:ESI) was up 4.54% or 0.24 points to 5.53 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Northland Power Inc . (TO:NPI), which lost 9.25% or 2.38 points to trade at 23.36 in late trade. Badger Daylighting Ltd . (TO:BAD) declined 3.64% or 1.51 points to end at 40.00 and ARC Resources Ltd . (TO:ARX) shed 3.40% or 0.33 points to 9.39.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 562 to 503 and 124 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.66% to 12.26.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.39% or 5.05 to $1306.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.39% or 0.23 to hit $59.15 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.04% or 0.03 to trade at $67.51 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.13% to 0.7509, while CAD/EUR fell 0.03% to 0.6613.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.16% at 95.830.
