Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the IT, Clean Technology and Energy sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.30%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were IAMGold Corporation (TSX:IMG), which rose 11.39% or 0.60 points to trade at 5.87 at the close. Sienna Senior Living Inc (TSX:SIA) added 7.07% or 1.00 points to end at 15.14 and Jamieson Wellness Inc (TSX:JWEL) was up 4.16% or 1.07 points to 26.77 in late trade.
Biggest losers included CI Financial Corp (TSX:CIX), which lost 12.12% or 2.03 points to trade at 14.72 in late trade. NexGen Energy Ltd. (TSX:NXE) declined 10.54% or 1.16 points to end at 9.85 and Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP) shed 8.31% or 0.35 points to 3.86.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 495 to 443 and 116 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.67% to 12.07.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 1.29% or 30.10 to $2,370.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.22% or 0.97 to hit $78.29 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 1.29% or 1.08 to trade at $82.80 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.04% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.10% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 105.17.
