Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Healthcare, Energy and Consumer Staples sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.26%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB), which rose 5.07% or 0.36 points to trade at 7.46 at the close. Canada Goose Holdings Inc (TSX:GOOS) added 5.01% or 2.34 points to end at 49.04 and Gran Tierra Energy Inc (TSX:GTE) was up 4.62% or 0.060 points to 1.360 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hexo Corp (TSX:HEXO), which lost 15.93% or 0.5400 points to trade at 2.8500 in late trade. Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX:ACB) declined 13.53% or 0.56 points to end at 3.58 and Canopy Growth Corp (TSX:WEED) shed 9.49% or 2.565 points to 24.465.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 574 to 463 and 122 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 7.97% to 9.47.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.09% or 1.30 to $1462.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.90% or 0.53 to hit $58.05 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.53% or 0.34 to trade at $63.63 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.09% to 0.7520, while CAD/EUR rose 0.26% to 0.6824.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.28% at 98.175.
