Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Consumer Discretionary, IT and Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.25%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Vermilion Energy Inc . (TSX:VET), which rose 11.75% or 2.94 points to trade at 27.97 at the close. Sprott Inc . (TSX:SII) added 9.70% or 5.36 points to end at 60.62 and Energy Fuels Inc. (TSX:EFR) was up 6.76% or 0.70 points to 11.06 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Cargojet Inc (TSX:CJT), which lost 15.16% or 27.89 points to trade at 156.04 in late trade. Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb) declined 13.04% or 0.18 points to end at 1.20 and Air Canada (TSX:AC) shed 10.34% or 2.27 points to 19.64.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 707 to 379 and 67 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 7.15% to 21.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 1.60% or 31.40 to $1,998.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 3.57% or 4.13 to hit $119.81 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 4.49% or 5.30 to trade at $123.41 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.57% to 0.78, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.01% to 0.72.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.52% at 99.18.
