Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Telecoms, Energy and Utilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.17%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC), which rose 9.76% or 1.09 points to trade at 12.26 at the close. Endeavour Silver Corp. (TSX:EDR) added 4.87% or 0.22 points to end at 4.74 and Nuvei Corp (TSX:NVEI) was up 3.66% or 1.64 points to 46.46 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Parex Resources Inc (TSX:PXT), which lost 7.58% or 2.20 points to trade at 26.81 in late trade. Athabasca Oil Corp (TSX:ATH) declined 3.24% or 0.11 points to end at 3.29 and Cogeco Communications Inc (TSX:CCA) shed 3.11% or 2.13 points to 66.30.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 473 to 470 and 129 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 8.20% to 11.35.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.30% or 5.95 to $1,958.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.62% or 1.22 to hit $74.10 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 1.72% or 1.37 to trade at $78.50 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.09% to 0.76, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.06% to 0.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 99.58.
