Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Clean Technology, Real Estate and Energy sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.14%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aecon Group Inc . (TO:ARE), which rose 3.71% or 0.55 points to trade at 15.38 at the close. NovaGold Resources Inc (TO:NG) added 3.70% or 0.22 points to end at 6.17 and Precision Drilling Corporation (TO:PD) was up 3.68% or 0.16 points to 4.51 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO:IVN), which lost 8.31% or 0.280 points to trade at 3.090 in late trade. ProMetic Life Sciences Inc. (TO:PLI) declined 7.14% or 0.050 points to end at 0.650 and Interfor Corp (TO:IFP) shed 5.03% or 1.31 points to 24.71.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 594 to 511 and 131 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.46% to 12.86.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.26% or 3.40 to $1302.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.47% or 0.31 to hit $66.67 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.94% or 0.71 to trade at $76.59 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.20% to 0.7699, while CAD/EUR fell 0.17% to 0.6531.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.26% at 93.59.
