Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Energy, IT and Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.11%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were SNC-Lavalin Group Inc . (TSX:SNC), which rose 20.56% or 4.06 points to trade at 23.81 at the close. Sandstorm Gold Ltd . (TSX:SSL) added 13.39% or 1.110 points to end at 9.400 and Torex Gold Resources Inc (TSX:TXG) was up 11.19% or 1.940 points to 19.270 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Pretium Resources Inc. (TSX:PVG), which lost 17.48% or 2.81 points to trade at 13.27 in late trade. Turquoise Hill Resources Ltd. (TSX:TRQ) declined 10.00% or 0.060 points to end at 0.540 and Vermilion Energy Inc . (TSX:VET) shed 9.98% or 1.93 points to 17.40.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 611 to 461 and 104 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 2.18% to 11.26.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.24% or 18.60 to $1515.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 1.69% or 0.93 to hit $54.13 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.07% or 0.04 to trade at $59.47 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.01% to 0.7598, while CAD/EUR rose 0.04% to 0.6814.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.34% at 97.110.
