Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Energy, Clean Technology and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.10%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Cargojet Inc (TSX:CJT), which rose 3.86% or 3.93 points to trade at 105.83 at the close. Mullen Group Ltd . (TSX:MTL) added 3.33% or 0.50 points to end at 15.51 and First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM) was up 3.25% or 1.07 points to 33.99 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Denison Mines Corp (TSX:DML), which lost 5.37% or 0.08 points to trade at 1.41 in late trade. Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP) declined 4.01% or 0.24 points to end at 5.75 and Secure Energy Services Inc . (TSX:SES) shed 3.65% or 0.23 points to 6.08.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 559 to 430 and 104 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 5.36% to 12.38.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.47% or 9.40 to $1,989.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.45% or 1.11 to hit $75.67 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 1.27% or 1.02 to trade at $79.31 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.07% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.53% to 0.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.49% at 101.90.
