Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Healthcare, Consumer Discretionary and Energy sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.06%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Secure Energy Services Inc . (TSX:SES), which rose 10.17% or 0.80 points to trade at 8.67 at the close. Manulife Financial Corporation (TSX:MFC) added 3.21% or 0.87 points to end at 27.95 and ATS Corporation (TSX:ATS) was up 3.02% or 1.59 points to 54.24 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Gildan Activewear Inc. (TSX:GIL), which lost 10.86% or 5.39 points to trade at 44.22 in late trade. NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX:NG) declined 8.89% or 0.48 points to end at 4.92 and Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAC) shed 8.86% or 0.80 points to 8.23.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 654 to 331 and 111 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 3.42% to 9.99.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.86% or 17.40 to $1,997.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.27% or 0.19 to hit $71.42 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.33% or 0.25 to trade at $76.09 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.08% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.01% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 103.69.
