Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Utilities, Clean Technology and Telecoms sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.06% to hit a new 52-week low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Brookfield Business Partners LP (TSX:BBU_u), which rose 8.29% or 2.13 points to trade at 27.81 at the close. Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY) added 7.30% or 0.29 points to end at 4.26 and Aritzia Inc (TSX:ATZ) was up 6.51% or 2.97 points to 48.62 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Cameco Corp (TSX:CCO), which lost 13.48% or 4.80 points to trade at 30.82 in late trade. Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP) declined 6.54% or 0.54 points to end at 7.72 and Innergex Renewable Energy Inc . (TSX:INE) shed 6.23% or 0.99 points to 14.90.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 557 to 473 and 89 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 3.87% to 23.61.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.33% or 5.60 to $1,680.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 2.70% or 2.41 to hit $86.94 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 2.13% or 2.01 to trade at $92.28 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.15% to 0.72, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.07% to 0.75.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 113.20.
